Hi Adriane,
Thank you for the feedback. I share some of your concern but it is definitely the nature of our campus as they like to do month long film series for various topics. I like the addition of TV shows. I remember the Brooklyn Nine-Nine episode and think it would be a great addition to the list. Some others have shared some episodes from Friends and Facts of Life… My goal is to create a list and bring it back to the committee. Also, we incorporate self-care exercises at the end of the film while having confidential counselors present as well.
Sincerely,
Marissa

That’s an excellent point. To that end, there is a stand up special on HBO, Daniel Sloss: X, that I just watched that was really impactful. He waits until about 2/3rd of the way through the program to share a very personal story, but he couches it in a way that I think is incredibly informative for young men.

Hi all, I'm your daily reminder on the value of spell checking and reading voice texts before posting. 😃 My apologies; I've corrected the text below.
I don't know if you're specifically looking for movies that are documentaries or for more serious media. I might add that I think it could be very difficult to sustain a weekly series when the films listed here can be so difficult to watch. For example, we've screened Hunting Ground about five times and when we move into the discussion the room is often feeling defeated and exhausted. I've found folks often reflect on the film for days after and need lots of space for processing and self-care, but perhaps you would have a community that is more able to engage in this way.
If it fits with your learning outcomes, you might be able to use a variety of genres, including comedy or shorter tv shows. For example, I would highly recommend the tv show Brooklyn Nine-Nine. They've done some pretty serious episodes around sexual harassment and Black Lives Matter. It's also a comedy, so I've found it to be very accessible for folks interested in doing an exercise in critical media literacy.
Thanks for starting this thread, I'm learning about a few shows I've never heard of! :)
