 Job Posting Title: Violence Against Women Prevention Program (VAWPP) Coordinator

 

The University of Connecticut Women’s Center is inviting applications for our Violence Against Women Prevention Program Coordinator, Program Specialist 1, UCP 6. 

 

The mission of the Women’s Center is to educate, advocate, and provide support services for the achievement of women’s equity at the university and within the community at large.  More specifically, we promote an anti-racist feminist perspective, which includes an analysis of the intersectionality between various forms of oppression; challenges the power structure/status quo that reinforces inequality based on race and gender simultaneously; and foregrounds the understanding of how racial discrimination impacts the analysis of gender discrimination.

 

Under the direction of the Women's Center Director, provides education, advocacy, and support services related to addressing and preventing all forms of gender-based discrimination, harassment, and violence on campus through an intersectional lens.  Provides program implementation, management, and administrative coordination for the Violence Against Women Prevention Program (VAWPP).  While gender-based violence is the primary focus of this position, the expectation is that the role is also integrated into the overall gender equity work of the Center.  The position provides leadership and sets priorities for VAWPP as a signature program of the Women's Center.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The VAWPP Coordinator oversees the following core functions: 

 

          The recruitment, training, and supervision of the VAWPP Peer Facilitators who conduct the mandatory Consent 201 workshops in the First Year Experience (FYE) courses;

          Develop curriculum for and instruct WGSS 3271, which is the prerequisite training for the VAWPP FYE peer educators;

          The recruitment, training, and supervision of the Men's Project Facilitators;

          The recruitment, training, and supervision of the Greeks Against Sexual Assault (GASA) Facilitators;

          Design, market, and deliver relevant and accessible training and educational programs related to addressing and preventing all forms of gender-based violence, including but not limited to planning, organizing and overseeing all activities for annual Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month;

          Market VAWPP and create visibility for the issues addressed by the program through a variety of approaches including the development of educational materials (i.e. brochures, videos, etc.);

          Provide immediate short-term crisis intervention, support, advocacy, and/or resource/referral information, as needed to students, staff, and faculty;

          Provide institutional advocacy (i.e. advocates for systemic program and policy changes that work towards the prevention of gender-based violence) through collaborative, multidisciplinary, committee work to identify and fill gaps in training, education, and resources available to all campus constituents;

          Assist in the planning, coordinating, and marketing of programs for the Women's Center; and

          Serve as a staff liaison to at least one of the Women's Center Advisory Board sub-committees.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities include:

 

          Participate in the planning, development and implementation of grant proposals.

          Hire and supervise student interns and employees.

          Responsible for various administrative duties as assigned.

This position serves as resource for students, staff and faculty regarding Violence Against Women Prevention Program information and techniques, requiring an advanced knowledge in area of specialization.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

1.       Bachelor's degree in academic discipline appropriate to the field of specialization (including, but not limited to WGSS, Political Science/Public Policy, Social Work, Law, Higher Education and Student Affairs, Ethnic Studies) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2.       Two to four years professional experience related to gender equity/gender-based violence.

3.       Demonstrated experience working with diverse constituencies.

4.       Comprehensive knowledge of the dynamics of gender-based violence; of current state and federal laws related to Title IX, VAWA, and gender-based violence; and of current practice and literature related to gender-based violence prevention and intervention.

5.       Comprehensive knowledge of issues related to gender equity, diversity, and inclusion.

6.       Proven ability to apply a range of concepts, techniques, and practices to carry out technical program objectives.

7.       Proven ability to set programmatic vision, lead others in realizing said vision, and build relationships with key stakeholders.

8.       Proven ability to collaborate, troubleshoot, problem solve, and work to exchange ideas and resolve complex situations.

9.       Proven ability to give and receive feedback, clarifications, and instruction.

10.    Proven ability of effective curriculum and training design and facilitation.

11.    Proven ability of program planning and marketing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

1.       Master’s Degree in academic discipline appropriate to the field of specialization (including, but not limited to WGSS, Political Science/Public Policy, Social Work, Law, Higher Education and Student Affairs, Ethnic Studies).

2.       Domestic violence/sexual assault counselor/advocate certification.

3.       Professional experience related to diversity and inclusion and/or higher education and student affairs.

4.       Proven ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.

5.       Experience with assessment and program evaluation.

6.       Experience with grant writing and management.

7.       Experience with supervision, counseling, and evaluation of student staff.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

 

This is a full-time, 12 month position.  Competitive salary based upon qualifications.
