Greetings All:
Happy to forward a recent opinion we received out of the Federal Court in TN denying summary to a school district arising out of a brutal hazing event and sexual assault of a freshman basketball player by other teammates at a tournament. This brings Title IX into the arena of risks exclusively facing, in this case, young men, by virtue of their interest in school athletic/educational programs that place them at risk of violent hazing, where, as here, no such hazing or risks exist in female sport programs. NOTE: It’s docket entry 248, so the path to this victory for the family has been long. Monica Beck from our office has done a great job.
We will be expanding upon this line of justice to attack traditions of dangerous hazing in a complaint that will be filed against LSU (and others) next week, asserting Title IX, Civil Rights and other state law claims, arising out of the fraternity hazing death of Max Gruver, where he, like other young men seeking the benefit of Greek Life (educational benefits) at college, face (for decades) unparalleled risks of injury and death that colleges have tolerated, refused to publicly disclose or remedy with deliberate indifference.
Hopefully, this precedent/work will assist you in your work and make things a little safer for students.
All the best.

On Behalf Of Sacks, Alana
Hello community!
I am hoping you are all having peaceful summers! For those who are still on email, would you be able to let me know what your institution does for (particularly trans-identifying or gender non conforming) alum who would like to change the name on their diploma AFTER graduating to match the name they go by. It would be helpful for me to know if your institution has a policy for how to address this request for those who have completed the legal name change process as well as for people who may have not yet done so or who may have elected not to participate in this process.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
best, Alana
