Position Description

The Office of Health Promotion at Syracuse University is seeking to hire an experienced Health Promotion Specialist to develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of health promotion programs, events and initiatives. The ideal candidate should have two years of experience focused on creating programming and outreach in mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and sexual relationship violence.

 

The Health Promotion Specialist will collaborate with campus stakeholders to implement a comprehensive approach to health for students. This position will provide oversight and coordination of preventative programming, as well as hire, train, and supervise volunteers, interns, and peer educators.

 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years related health promotion work experience, preferably in a higher education environment
  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Policy, Health Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a closely related field.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH), or eligible and intent to become certified preferred.

Position Description

The Assistant Director of the Office of Health Promotion reports to the Director of the Office of Health Promotion and is an integral member of the professional staff of the Department. The Assistant Director is responsible for helping provide leadership of the Office of Health Promotion and for supporting the Director in overseeing data-driven design, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion and prevention initiatives at Syracuse University. The Assistant Director will assist in coordinating collaborative efforts among Health and Wellness departments as well as departments within Enrollment and the Student Experience and the University at-large. In addition, the Assistant Director will provide educational presentations and workshops regarding college population health data and trends, sexual and relationship violence, healthy relationships, sexual health, substance use, and mental health and wellness. The Assistant Director will conduct assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive university health and wellness program, with special attention paid to assessment and evaluation. They will also serve as the chief representative of the Office of Health Promotion in the absence of the Director. The Assistant Director will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight to ensure the success of campus-wide student health and wellness assessments and other initiatives of the Office of Health Promotion as assigned by the Director.

 

Qualifications

          A master’s degree in a related field, such as public health, health promotion, health education, health policy, or health communications is required.

          Minimum 3 years of experience in the field of wellness education and prevention with progressively increasing responsibilities.

          Some professional supervisory experience is preferred.

          Advanced certification such as Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), or Certified in Public Health (CPH), or certification eligible, strongly preferred
