UNC does not charge for their prevention trainings, however IFC Fraternity students who don’t come to our training or the offered make up trainings are fined, and we collect those funds - don’t think it leads to a significant income but can reimburse us for certain things like materials used if that’s an option to converter (also has strongly helped with attendance since instituting a fine)

We do not charge our campus partners for workshops.  We have tried to address demand on our time by screening closely the requests that we get.  For example, our office does not manage institutional compliance with federal laws.  So requests for workshops that focus heavily on mandates or reporting protocols, we refer to the appropriate office or staff (Office of Equity & Inclusion, Clery Compliance Officer, etc.)  Requests for workshops that are more heavily focused on mental health needs of students we refer to the Center for Counseling & Student Development.

In fact, I don’t think any of our peer Student Life Division offices charge when asked to do programs/workshops either.  However, the Student Centers do charge for any use of the spaces in their buildings (and it is quite expensive, even at the discounted campus rate) so there is a precedent for some charging of other units.

At EIU we do not charge. Our Health Education Resource Center does many workshops for campus and also does not charge.

Hi friends,

We are exploring the possibility of charging groups that request training for our office as a part of meeting their national mandates, for example, NCAA requirements or fraternity and sorority chapter requirements.  We would offer training for free in the classroom, to student orgs, and others if it was requested but not part of a mandate.  We would also charge for requests we get to speak at conferences.  This is a new approach for us, but would certainly help with our impending deficit and the increase in staff hours to meet high volume requests.

Do any of y'all charge for the workshops you offer to your own campus or at conferences?  We are looking to develop some sort of matrix and I'd love to learn more about any other departments that do something similar.

Thanks! :)
