Job Summary:
The University of San Diego is seeking a Wellness Education & Training Specialist who is a member of the Division of Student Affairs – Women’s Center that will co-lead the University’s comprehensive sexual violence prevention and education initiatives which are tied to compliance with the Title IX Amendment, Clery Act, and related laws and regulations; and coordinate, develop and facilitate institution-wide education related to Title IX and the Clery Act. This position will work closely with the Title IX Compliance & Education Specialist, who is a member of the Department of Human Resources. The Wellness Education & Training Specialist will focus on evidence-based and innovative strategies, and will work collaboratively to maintain and institutionalize sexual violence population based behavioral and education initiatives. The Wellness Education & Training Specialist will have a specific area of focus being with students. This position provides support and guidance to the University's goal of creating a community of diversity and inclusive excellence and working to ensure the wellbeing of our community.
The Wellness Education and Training Specialist will serve as a primary leader in educating and training our student community about healthy relationships, including direct support of CARE (Campus Assault Resources and Education) initiatives. This position will also facilitate and support education related to various other behavioral health initiatives such as problematic drinking, gender role socialization, life skills and healthy coping. In an effort to support the wellness of the overall student community, the University of San Diego recognizes that such concerns need to be viewed within the context of holistic development, the larger community, and a comprehensive prevention program. The specialist will also work with various Student Affairs units and other divisions that share the responsibility to address the intersections of various behavioral health concerns (i.e. problematic drinking, gender relations, and healthy masculinities). Receives direct supervision from, and reports to the Director of the Women’s Center.
Qualifications:
- Masters or advanced degree required in health promotion, higher education, social work, counseling or related field; directly related professional work experience may be substituted for an advanced degree. Minimum of two years related experience required.
- Previous experience with violence prevention education, victim advocacy, and trauma informed care strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of health promotion, student development theories, and learning theories.
- Previous experience with creating, implementing, administering and assessing training courses.
- Professional experience with Title IX in a higher education setting is preferred.
- Understanding of Catholic Higher Education, the mission and core values of USD, and an ability to enhance a strong culture of care among the USD community.
- Professional experience working with behavioral health and social justice issues in a higher education setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of gender development theories and the ability to integrate knowledge into programming and initiatives.
- Clinical background and/or education preferred.
Performance Expectations: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of Title IX legislation and regulations.
- Experience in developing learning outcomes, designing and delivering education and training programs and assessing their effectiveness.
- Ability to align programs and other learning experiences to Envision 2024, the Student Affairs Strategic Plan, and the University’s co-curricular learning outcomes
- Possess strong facilitation and training skills: ability to lead community dialogues and facilitate trainings.
- Willingness to work collaboratively with the campus community, specifically faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the concerns and needs of diverse populations and student populations.
- Experience successfully working with confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies.
- Possess knowledge of methods and techniques to facilitate student outreach activities.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines with great attention to detail.
- Demonstrated professionalism and superior customer service skills.
- High level of organization and the ability to multi-task are essential.
- Ability to build relationships that balance the multiple, varying, and sometimes conflicting interests of diverse stakeholders around a politically charged subject matter are essential.
- Strong reporting and recordkeeping skills.
- Skills in collaboration, change management, conflict management and consensus building.
- Able to work flexible evening and weekend schedule as necessary; some evening and weekend work will be required to deliver presentations, training, etc.
- Strong presentation skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to gather, assemble, analyze, and evaluate facts, evidence, data and other information in order to draw reasonable and fair conclusions and make sound decisions.
- Must possess excellent judgment and have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
