It’s probably just due to me being a grumpy feminist, but I usually get suspicious when SV programs are marketed as “fun,” “enjoyable,” and give students “a great time.” Also, I am puzzled as to why they think they have a program in which “counselors don’t need to be standing outside the door because participants don’t feel uncomfortable with the topic.” That marketing claim suggests to me that this may not be a particularly thoughtful program…

I had the same concerns when I looked at the slides. It would be great to hear from someone who has witnessed the program first hand.

I have not used the “Zero Shades of Grey” program, but I looked at the website to learn more about it and have a couple of immediate concerns.  If you click on the “Seminar Slide Summary” at the bottom, there is a slide warning students to “Be careful in the Red Zone,” which, coupled with the largely heteronormative statistics that are presented in the other slides, may inadvertently reaffirm the cultural message that women need to be more careful when they go out. 

 

That said, I don’t know what kind of verbal content goes along with the slides.  Maybe someone who has experience with this program can chime in?
