Dear partners, As you know, Tuesday, April 5th is the Day of Action for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), when individuals and groups across the country such as yours will mobilize to spread awareness
and promote prevention in your local communities. With sexual violence recently receiving unprecedented attention in the media, we want to build on the momentum by generating a groundswell of local stories around the Day of Action –
and we need your help! This year’s SAAM theme is “Prevention is possible,” and what better way to demonstrate this than to showcase the important work your organizations are doing across the country to help put an end to sexual violence
once and for all. As you and your colleagues observe the Day of Action, we encourage you to drive attention to your efforts by engaging with local media in order to further promote awareness and participation.
To this end, we are providing you with
the below template media pitch email. We hope you will use this to inform local reporters of one or more Day of Action events led by your organization or a fellow community member as an example of the collective effort being made to drive awareness of
sexual violence prevention. As we’re promoting the Day of Action on a national level, we’d love to hear about what kinds of events you have planned so we can highlight those in our own outreach efforts. Please feel free to send us the same details
you’re pushing out to local media. Additionally, we have attached a media engagement toolkit and social media toolkit to serve as resources for your outreach efforts during the Day of Action and throughout SAAM. By using these tools to amplify your
activities, you will play an important role in making this year’s SAAM the most successful to date.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions about these materials, and thank you in advance for your participation.
Sincerely, Laura Palumbo Communications Director National Sexual Violence Resource Center 123 North Enola Drive, Enola, PA 17025 717.909.0710
