Hi Nikki – No, I have never heard of this speaker. But, I want to echo John’s sentiments.

I read through the webpage, and found a few troubling lines that would give me pause for bringing in this speaker – repeated use of the term “date rape” and “Examine the psychology and sociology of power and lust that drives men to pursue sexual conquest”, among some others. These may not be deal breakers, but would definitely warrant a follow-up.

In giving this speaker the benefit of the doubt, maybe he is new to the field, and looking to build his brand. He should have references, but you probably already checked those.

On the other hand, this goes to a previous post I’d made about people swooping in and cashing in on our field. Somehow though, it feels like sexual assault prevention speakers are around every corner, like McDonald’s.

Did the group looking to bring him in seek your advice/guidance? As the prevention coordinator (and thus, wealth of knowledge and resources), I’m sure you could have supplied them with a list of credible speakers. This happened at my current institution, where I was told about a speaker, and not consulted. Not that we should have huge amounts of power in this regard, but given our work and knowledge, we are the defacto experts, and I’d think groups would want our feedback and opinion, and include us in the process. Especially so things are coordinated and comprehensive.

I feel you frustrations! And wish you much luck!

I can't say I've met or even heard of him, but in looking at his website, the youtube video, he complains about fraternity brothers being disciplined 'too harshly' for sexual assault on more than one campus.  Sounds to me like he may not be a good fit for the purpose you have in mind; but I do need to say I know nothing about him except what was forwarded.

Greetings,

Have any of you had experience with Paul F. Davis http://www.paulfdavis.com/sexual-assault-prevention-speaker? A student group is looking to bring him to our campus in a few weeks and I am not familiar with his work. I’d like to provide the students some feedback as soon as possible, so your prompt response is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
