Hi Nikki,

I had not heard of Paul F. Davis from my sexual assault prevention work but had heard him speak and read his writing outside of this area.  My experience was that he speaks a great deal from personal story and his work is rooted in gender essentialism, sensationalism, and a specific brand of Christianity. He is a minister/motivational speaker. A quotation I had heard previously from him that is quoted on his website is: "Promiscuous sex is like eating cotton candy. Though it does not nourish you, it tastes good for a little while. However the more you indulge and eat eventually the sicker you’ll feel." I had first encountered him when I grew up in New York and he was speaking a lot of places after 9/11. As a queer person who has people in my life who sometimes send me materials about my "lifestyle choices," I have received some materials in the various arenas he occupies. Here's an example: http://paulfdavis.com/blog/index.php?/archives/609-God-on-Gays,-Homosexuality-and-Sodomy.html.  To say I'm disturbed reading through his work on sexual assault and alcohol just now is an understatement.

My best,

LB

Subject: Experiences with speaker

Greetings,

Have any of you had experience with Paul F. Davis http://www.paulfdavis.com/sexual-assault-prevention-speaker? A student group is looking to bring him to our campus in a few weeks and I am not familiar with his work. I’d like to provide the students some feedback as soon as possible, so your prompt response is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
