Hi Megan,

This is something that we are currently looking at – how do campuses decide which of the numerous bystander programs fit best on their particular campus?

Here are some preliminary questions you might consider in making your decision:

  • What are the changes you wish to make on campus? Are these in line with the program objectives?
  • How does the program fit into your overall prevention plan? Are the messages consistent?
  • What elements are important to your campus (gender equity, sexual health promotion, etc.)? Does the program include those elements?
  • What partners will you need to be involved? Does the campus have the capacity for this?

Of course, there are many other questions to ask but these are a few off the top of my head!

Best,

Everyone,

One of our student support programs has received a grant to train our campus to facilitate the Step Up bystander intervention curriculum across a range of areas of student concern (sexual assault, suicide, alcohol abuse, etc). We have also been approached by some other in-state institutions who are facilitating a statewide Bringing In the Bystander training, and have invited us to participate.

Frankly, I’m not sure about the direction to take. I’m looking for input from anyone who has experience with one of both of these curricula, regarding pros and cons.

I appreciate any information! Thanks!
