Director of Substance Abuse and Violence Education Support services

 

Radford University, a comprehensive public university of nearly 10,000 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students with 3,200 on-campus residents, seeks a highly motivated and talented professional to lead its Substance Abuse and Violence Education Support services unit. Radford is located in the heart of the beautiful New River Valley of Southwest Virginia, 15 minutes to Blacksburg and Christiansburg, 30 minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and 45 minutes to the Roanoke airport and metropolitan area.

The director will serve as the primary point person within Division of Student Affairs on substance abuse, sexual violence, and violence prevention issues and efforts working with the senior administration, faculty, staff, students, community leaders, and state alcohol/drug officials. S/he will research, prepare and secure grant funding and supervise grant administration.  

 

The director will provide supervision and direction to the Assistant Director, administrative assistant, graduate assistants, and assigned graduate intern/practicum students; manage departmental budgets and administration; lead education and harm reduction programming; and provide direct counseling, intervention, and assistance to students on matters of substance abuse, sexual violence, and related matters.

 

The director is a participant in developing an educational climate supportive of the mission of the university. Responsibilities center on fostering an environment that encourages sensible conduct choices and personal and educational integrity as values of the institution. This is accomplished through positive educational programs that encourage appropriate behavior. 


Required Qualifications: Demonstrated professional prevention and support experience with substance abuse and sexual violence issues. Knowledge of Title IX and Campus SaVE Act. Experience providing training and working with peer educators. Demonstrated ability to collect and interpret data and use it in strategic planning. Demonstrated experience in office and budget management. Proficient with computers and technology. Ability to communicate effectively with all university and community constituents and stakeholders.

 

Must have advanced degree in counseling, social work or related field. Ability to provide clinical services and supervision. LPC or LCSW required.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a university setting and supervision experience strongly preferred. Understanding of Title IX, Campus SaVE Act and implications for work in this area. Experience with college student mental health issues.
