I am a contractor, working in support of the Army’s sexual assault prevention and response efforts. Here is what I can tell you about Army ROTC students and the screening and training they experience regarding sexual assault.

They undergo the following screening with regard to sexual offenses:

·       A felony conviction for a sexual offense as a non-waiverable disqualification for enlistment or commissioning.

·       Also, within 90 days after signing a contract, each ROTC cadet receives a background check. A cadet is removed from the ROTC program under a breach of contract for failure to disclose information considered disqualifying for commissioning.

The Army provides the following training to ROTC students as part of their Sexual Harassment/ Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Education and Curricula:

3 hours of SHARP instruction is included in the Basic Officer Leader Course-Accessions (BOLC-A) curriculum

This leader-facilitated training is supplemented by a web-based training program entitled “SHARP Training;” targeted awareness materials and scenario training titled ‘Sex Rules;’ and the interactive ‘Sex Signals’ training.

o   “SHARP Training” is a facilitated course conducted by Professors of Military Science (PMS) and augmented by web-based self-study. The training focuses on the SHARP Program, survivor testimonials, prevention methods and victim support services.

o   The self-study training provides integrated and gender-segregated training in a peer-to-peer model. The PMS adjusts the facilitated training based on the attitude and behavioral challenges identified in the web-based training.

o   In ‘Sex Rules’ training, the Army uses a set of ten Sex Rules that break down the elements of sexual harassment and sexual assault and define them in simple, relatable terms. By linking each Sex Rule to an Army Value, the scenario-based training helps establish the social behavior expected of all Soldiers, which is reinforced with accompanying awareness materials.

o   ‘Sex Signals’ training is a live, two-person, audience-interactive production. This 90-minute interactive program includes skits dealing with dating, consent, rape, body language, gender relations, alcohol use and intervention. This training is presented during ROTC Summer Camps and at USMA.

The U.S. Army Cadet Command (USACC) SHARP Program Manager conducts periodic staff assistance visits throughout the eight brigade areas to assist SHARP personnel in program compliance and training. In addition, each brigade conducts SHARP Organizational Inspection Program visits to each of their subordinate programs. USACC conducts quarterly SHARP refresher training with Brigade SHARP personnel via video-teleconference to share lessons learned and updates to the program.

I would be interested in what you find. We present campus wide, but this semester will be presenting to most (if not all) athletes and to ROTC. We have created a consent presentation, but I too want something engaging and interactive. I have added a kahoot quiz for this semester in hopes that this will provide more interaction and entertainment for the students. If you go to https://kahoot.it/#/ you can create a quiz and the students connect using their phones. It is similar to turning point, but you don't need the equipment. Please share your findings. thanks.

Hello All,
I am putting together ppt slides for Sexual Assault training I am going to do to every Athletic team/department at my University and I am wondering if anyone has an activity they have used to address sexual assault to make the presentation more engaging and interactive? It can be anything, hypotheticals, skits, drills, group work, etc. Thanks in advance,
