Hi folks.

The Center for Women & Community at UMass Amherst has a strong peer education program. We partner with our School of Public Health and Women Studies program so Peer Educators can receive practicum credit for participating. Educators receive 40 hrs. of pre service training, both in person and online and are then  tasked with: organizing and implementing campus events such as the annual Domestic Violence awareness month vigil and Take Back the Night as well as facilitating workshops on consent and bystander intervention.

We partner with Residence Life to train the Resident Assistants. Residence Life trains the RA’s on their Title IX responsibilities and we provide training on receiving and responding effectively to disclosures of sexual and relationship violence.

More recently we have partnered with our OIT department to train the students who staff the IT help desk/service.  That training focuses on understanding and responding to sexual harassment- based on feedback from the student staff on what they are encountering when working on students’ computers- ie. often finding evidence of harassment and/or staff being exposed to lots of nude photos.

The Athletic Department has partnered with Its On Us and works with their student Athletic Council to produce PSA’s that run during football, basketball and hockey games. Hope this is helpful.

Subject: Feedback?

Hello All,

I’m on a new programming committee related to campus SV and I’m interested in sharing what other campuses are doing related to any of the areas below… If it would be easier to talk over the phone, I would be happy to do so at 828-227-7469.

Do you have a program calendar that you all use that drives your year. So for example, is there anything specific that you do for trainings, programming, social media/marketing at orientation  and then continue to build on this message each month?

Do you have specific target outreach with student groups, such as RAs, athletes, Greek Life, etc. ?

Do you partner with others for programs/training? If so, who?

Do you have any peer educators trained?

Thank you for your feedback!
