Health Promotion Specialist with a concentration in the area of sexual assault.
The Health Promotion Specialist works as part of the Office of Health Promotion team and is responsible
for utilizing evidence- and theory-based principles to plan, implement, and evaluate health promotion programs, events, and initiatives as part of a comprehensive health and wellness prevention strategy for students. Primary focus areas for prevention include
sexual and relationship violence, mental health, and alcohol and other drugs. This position will also oversee multiple peer education groups, student organizations, and student volunteers. Qualifications ·
Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Policy, Health Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a closely related field. ·
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH), or eligible and intent to become certified preferred. ·
A minimum of two years related health promotion work experience, preferably in a higher education environment Job-Specific Qualifications ·
Experience utilizing behavior change theories and models in the development and implementation of evidence-based programs/initiatives. ·
Experience implementing and evaluating population-based prevention initiatives. ·
Demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods including presentations, training, small group facilitation, and individual sessions. ·
Demonstrated skills in critically reviewing health-related literature, as well as gathering, compiling, and synthesizing information to develop health promotion initiatives and educational materials
for a diverse group of students. ·
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. ·
Ability to think critically and solve problems, as well as handle multiple projects simultaneously. ·
Good judgment and ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion. ·
Strong knowledge of sexual and relationship violence content and prevention strategies. ·
Knowledge of mental health issues and alcohol and other drugs. ·
Demonstrated cultural competence and inclusiveness in working with populations of diverse cultures and identities in addressing issues of diversity, health, and social justice. ·
Demonstrated skills and training in health communication and social marketing. ·
Demonstrated skills in grant writing and quantitative and qualitative research preferred. Responsibilities ·
Develops, implements, and evaluates a variety of health promotion programs, events, and initiatives as part of a comprehensive health promotion mission, vision, and prevention strategy, with particular
focus on sexual and relationship violence. ·
Collaborates with key stakeholders on and off campus to implement a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health for students. This includes participation in Division of Student Affairs and
health and wellness teams and committees. ·
Develops goals and measurable objectives for policies, programs, and services and evaluate effectiveness. ·
Provides oversight to, and coordination of, student groups, including student organizations, student volunteers, and peer education groups. Assists these groups in creating and delivering innovative
primary prevention programs, including harm-reduction education, bystander intervention, and awareness events. ·
Hires/recruits, trains, manages, supervises and evaluates paid and/or volunteer student staff, interns, student volunteers, and peer educators. ·
Incorporates multicultural diversity and social justice concepts and principles into health promotion services. ·
