Amy—One of the issues we’re trying to address on our campus with regard to intra-group conflict and tension in our LGBTQIA community is social justice burnout.  There’s some interesting research, like that of Chen and Gorski, that looks at causes, symptoms and potential remedies for burnout that might be useful.  I find that we often don’t appreciate the toll that dealing with daily micro-aggressions and trying so hard to make change can take on individuals and communities.  For my campus at this time, we feel like we have to address the pain that people are experiencing first, then move toward resolving conflicts, then teach the social change knowledge and skills that our students need to make progress on their social justice goals.

hi folks - this is not particularly about sexual violence, but i hope that some of you might know about curricula or programs used with campus communities that teach bystander intervention theory/techniques to combat racism (particularly intra-racial conflict and tension).

the Center for Black Culture on our campus asked me for resources, and i don't know of any. any ideas you have are appreciated!

thanks,

Amy
