Dear Colleagues,
With apologies for cross-posting, I am reaching out with a research related request. I am a doctoral student currently researching the impact of pending federal legislation on student survivors as part of my dissertation. My 12 years of working with student survivors in higher education informs this study, which has been approved by the Northern Illinois University Institutional Review Board. As such, I have two requests I'd like you to consider.
1. I am looking for advocates to take part in a brief interview about their work with college student survivors. I am interested in the role
of an advocate in students’ decisions to move forward with reporting the
incident to either law enforcement or to the institution’s conduct or Title IX
office. My dissertation examines the different
decision-making processes of student sexual assault survivors, including
whether or not to report and to whom. The purpose of my study is to learn more about students’ experiences of sexual assault in a campus setting.
I am seeking both campus based and community advocates for a short interview about their experiences working with college student survivors of
sexual assault. The
interview should take less than 40 minutes. Please contact
me directly at the e-mail address below with any questions or to arrange an
interview time. If you aren’t an advocate who provides direct services to
college students, please distribute the call for participants to any eligible individuals
or organizations you think may be interested.
2. I am also conducting an anonymous survey of student survivors about their experiences. The survey was piloted with student survivors and should take about 30 minutes to complete. I have attached a flyer to this e-mail that I'm hoping you will consider posting in your offices where students might gather, or posting the flyer on social media or Twitter. The link to the survey is here: http://tinyurl.com/qctbu9s. UltraViolet and End Rape on Campus have both graciously agreed to Tweet about the survey as well using #campussurvivorsurvey. If you are comfortable sharing the link or flyer with student activist groups on your campus via social media, it would be much appreciated.
I'm happy to answer
any questions you may have about the study and may be reached via e-mail at the
address listed below.
Thank you in advance for any support you can provide,
Jill Dunlap
