Attached is a presentation we did for our law enforcement and the county prosecutor’s did attend. Not sure if it will help, but I thought it worth sending.

Subject: Title IX and community partners

Hello,

We are struggling somewhat to explain our university’s obligations under Title IX to our county prosecutor and local law enforcement. I’m wondering if there is any TA or training targeted at local criminal justice systems to help them understand Title IX obligations – they don’t seem to be getting it when it’s coming from us.

Specifically, that the university doesn’t notify local law enforcement without survivor permission unless there is an imminent safety threat to the university; that we are obligated to initiate an investigation and can’t wait too long for the survivor to decide whether or not they are also going to report to law enforcement; and our county prosecutor is really struggling to understand that the university process has nothing to do with her prosecution decisions.

If anyone is aware of anything, please let me know! We’re having some very frustrating and circular conversations as we’re working to build better relationships with our off-campus agencies.

Thanks!
