Hello CAPPA. Thanks for sharing this information. I reviewed your website and information regarding your mission and vision.  As a professional Advocate and Violence Prevention expert working on a college campus I appreciate your focus on supporting the specialized work we do within the college communities. My work and the work of our center has always been grounded  in the work of community based rape crisis and domestic violence programs as well as the research, practice and training that is promoted by state-wide coalitions. Those important connections seemed to be missing from your goals. Is part of the networking going to be fostering the connections between campus and community based advocates? It is imperative that colleges are not further insulated from the communities around them.  I look forward to hearing more about the aspirations of the network.  Becky

Subject: Announcing Campus Advocates and Prevention Professionals Association (CAPPA)!

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of our founding leadership council, I am excited to announce the launch of the Campus Advocates & Prevention Professionals Association (CAPPA)!

CAPPA was created by and for campus-based professionals who work to educate their campuses and colleagues about interpersonal/gender-based violence in all its forms and advocate for and support students who have been affected by dating/domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.  This organization is not meant to replace SAPC, and we are grateful to have Claire Kaplan, who had the vision to create and moderate this listserv, on our founding leadership council.

We hope to help elevate the national dialogue and to provide expertise on stalking, dating/domestic violence, and sexual assault/harassment prevention and response on college and university campuses.  CAPPA will provide a hub for discussions of best practices, challenges, and opportunities to further professionalize the field. Members will have access to a members-only listserv, private Facebook group, as well as evolving opportunities related to membership, networking, training, legislative advocacy, research and practice, professional standards, and communications. We look forward to engaging with you as members, leaders, or collaborators. We believe in the dynamic nature of this work and will regularly evaluate our efforts to reflect member feedback, foster new leadership, and adapt with the changing national landscape.

A press release is attached to this email. Please feel free to disseminate widely. To learn more about CAPPA or to fill out a membership application, please visit www.nationalcappa.org  or contact CAPPA co-facilitators, Jill Dunlap and LB Klein at or (872) 240-2270. There is currently no cost for membership. Supporters can also show solidarity by liking our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/nationalcappa) or following us on Twitter (@NationalCAPPA).
