DESCRIPTION:

PRIMARY DUTY: This is an academic year, ten-month position with a competitive salary and full benefits. Wellness Services is looking for a dynamic, team-oriented, and highly committed therapist to engage fully in three essential areas of service – individual counseling with students; outreach consultations to the college community; and crisis management that includes occasional evening and weekend crisis consultation/management, as needed. We are looking for an individual who has a vision of how they could contribute something unique to the programming offered by Wellness Services and who has demonstrated the ability to follow through with their vision.

  

      Expertise and experience in working with substance abuse issues, motivational interviewing, strength based psychology, and mindfulness based stress management is further welcomed. Multicultural competence, including but not limited to experience and expertise in working with students of color, first generation colleges students, and LGBTQ students is a must.

 

      This clinician should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well with a team of clinical professionals as well as with the University Community – composed of Wellness Services staff, Residential Life staff, and a range of other key colleagues in the Division of Student Affairs. Focus on self-care, a deep capacity for self-reflection, and the ability to hold a vision of how to be an effective campus counselor, presenter, and consultant is vital.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.     Maintain ethical and professional standards

2.     Be a dynamic team member

3.     Conduct intake and emergency appointments

4.     Perform individual and group counseling for students with a wide variety of concerns

5.    Participate in after-hours crisis consultation/management

6.    Keep abreast of current practices and attend conferences as budget permits

7.    Participate in individual and group supervision and administrative staff meetings

8.    As appropriate, supervise non-licensed counselors, interns or graduate students

9.    Conduct Outreach programming via workshops/presentations University Classes, Residence

       Halls and with Greek organizations, etc.

10.  Offer consultations/liaison to various campus/community entities

11.  Assist in training with Residential Life staff, Peer Educators, etc.

12.  Perform other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      Education: Master’s or ABD in counseling, clinical psychology, or social work

      Experience: Minimum of one year of experience with college population; commitment to work with diverse student population

       License/Certification: Must hold current license in counseling, social work, psychology or related

       field.           
                       

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:          

      Education: Master’s Degree or ABD in counseling, clinical psychology, or social work          

      Supervision: Experience in supervising counseling staff and/or interns.

      Experience: Experience in college counseling center; will consider master’s level with significant counseling center experience; experience with substance abuse issues

      Skills: Counseling and presentation skills

 

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION:

WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will work in a typical office environment from the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour lunch break. This position will require some evening and weekend work.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Requires professional supervision; Assist with supervision of master’s level counseling staff seeking licensure, interns and graduate assistants, as needed

 

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Standard office equipment    

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing and sitting with the ability to lift up to 20 pounds
