Hi Joanne,
At the campus I last worked at, we had a local pizza shop near the school dedicate a percentage of their sales for one or two nights to support our peer education groups. This was something that was relatively painless to orchestrate, and the peer educators could easily promote the event and then sign up for shifts to be there at the restaurant to greet and chat with patrons. Any order from someone with a "ticket" (which was essentially a quarter-sheet promo for the group) was part of the donation, and the restaurant allowed us to stand outside and hand out the "tickets" to patrons. This broadened the reach to include folks who weren't just coming for the fundraiser - including community members. If it's a success for everyone, this could be something you do a few times a year.
A clever/catchy/impactful tagline, some good promotional materials, an energetic group of volunteers, and a tasty, high-traffic, and supportive venue can go a long way. Also, putting on the wellness/AOD hat, aligning the fundraiser strategically with a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday evening (or some other campus event, like before a concert or sporting event) can be a good way to get some food in students if they are going to choose to drink.
Good luck!
Rob

JoMany thanks,Hello Sexual Violence Prevention Community,Has anyone had success with a fun fundraiser on their campus or in their community, other than a 5K? We are looking for a way to attract as many campus and community members to participate in a fundraiser, while putting sexual violence prevention on people's radar. We are raising money for our Sexual Offense Support advocacy program, which includes our volunteer-based campus hotline and peer education outreach. One of the challenges we have faced with the 5K is the amount of time and human resources it involves to be successful. Our SOS members are all very busy with studies, or full-time work and we need something that is not too time-consuming to organize. All ideas are welcome!Joanne Sampson
