Rina,
At the UVA Women’s Center, we have designated (with permission from the admin) specific staff on the first floor where our counseling program resides, as confidential employees.  This includes our front desk receptionist (so she isn’t required to report anyone who walks in), me and another colleague who works on eating disorders issues.  The other confidential employees are either licensed counselors or working under the license of our director of counseling.  However, it’s important to realize that when a confidential employee receives a report outside the bounds of their job responsibilities, then that changes their status.  So when I’m teaching, I’m a responsible employee.  I made this very clear to my students on the first day of class and also in the syllabus.
Good luck!
Claire

Subject: Women's Centers reporting?

I was curious to know how your schools handle confidential reporting. I know it does not have to be reported to our Title IX Coordinator if a student discloses an assault to 1) a provider at the university health center 2) a provider at the counseling center or 3) to any campus clergy but what about the Women's Center staff? Are they protected from reporting? I have seen mixed messages about this.

Thanks!
Rina
