Assistant Director, Advocate, Respect Program

Office of Health Promotion

Emory University Division of Campus Life

 

Education: 

BA, BS, or BSW required in counseling, student services, social work, public health, or related field.

MPH, MSW, MS or MA degree and credentials as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Masters Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) or certified rape crisis counselor preferred.

 

Experience and Skills: 

Advocacy and Student Support

·         Crisis intervention experience essential

·         Ability to handle confidential information sensitively and to use sound judgment in responding to crisis situations

·         Ability to work effectively with student, faculty, administrative, parent and other external constituencies essential

·         Experience providing trauma-informed and culturally relevant training to diverse constituencies

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

·         Provide confidential crisis counseling and advocacy to students who seek advocacy and support as a result of sexual and relationship violence. Individual support includes case management related to healthcare, safety, housing, academic needs and referrals to law enforcement, Title IX, Student Health and Counseling Services, and/or other campus and community resources, as well as hospital and court accompaniment and serving as an advisor in on-campus judicial processes

·         Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating elements of Emory’s comprehensive sexual and relationship violence prevention strategy, including awareness and survivor support education programs for all incoming students, ongoing awareness programming, and other initiatives as delineated in the Respect Program’s strategic plan within the Office of Health Promotion. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, curriculum design; presentations and workshops for classes and student organizations; trainings for staff, students and faculty about awareness and survivor advocacy and support; policy review and development; advising student organizations; and community organizing and coalition building.

·         Coordinate consistent reporting of incidents of sexual misconduct via an anonymous reporting form and corresponding protocols, complying with federal, state and university guidelines 

·         Support Emory’s 24-hour on-call system for emergency response with relevant training and consultation

·         Collaborate with key stakeholders on campus, including the Title IX Coordinator for Students, to develop a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach for responding to, advocating for, and supporting survivors. Forecast survivor and community response needs.

·         May supervise student staff and interns

·         Advise the Sexual Assault Peer Advocates (SAPA). May advise other student organizations. 

·         Coordinate primary prevention, awareness, and survivor support education campaigns within key areas of campus life, including but not limited to orientation for all incoming students, ongoing programs for athletic teams, and ongoing programs for residence hall communities.

·         Collaborate to provide training on survivor support to faculty, staff, and student responders including Title IX investigators and hearing board members, Student Intervention Service team members, Campus Life staff, student advocates, and student organizations.

·         Collaborate to promote sexual health education and its intersection with Emory’s comprehensive sexual and relationship violence prevention strategy.

·         Participate in overall activities and mission of the Office of Health Promotion

·         Consult with students who are assisting other students with concerns about sexual assault (survivors, friends of survivors, students concerned they may have perpetrated an assault, etc.).

·         Represent the Respect Program at key meetings.

·         Refer staff and faculty concerned about students to the Deputy Title IX Coordinator within their respective school

·         Collaborate with the Title IX Coordinator for Students to ensure compliance with directives related to awareness, response, and advocacy.

·         Position may require evening and weekend work; flexible schedule negotiable

·         Other duties as required

 

Reportability:

·         This position reports to the Director of the Office of Health Promotion within the Division of Campus Life.
