Hi Christina,
We offer counseling at our Women’s Center.  It has been a part of our programs almost since the beginning—doctoral students in the Counselor Education program did their hours here.  It has since morphed into a full-time Director of Counseling, a full-time trauma counselor (originally funded with stimulus funds, then the University took over), a part-time resident counselor (paid), plus a counseling intern who is working toward her licensure (unpaid).  If you’d like more info on the structure, etc., contact Charlotte Chapman at .  We don’t have any OVW money and never did.
Best,
Claire

Subject: Working with Counseling department

Good morning! I was wondering if anyone is working with their Counseling department to establish a program specifically for interpersonal violence clients. If so are you using OVW or other grant funds to do so? We are looking into applying for VOCA funding for a full time counselor and want to know if there are models already out there. Currently our clients only get 12 sessions of counseling and we have received feedback that it isn't enough. We've had to refer some of our students to our community partners but sometimes run into barriers due to transportation limitations. We'd like for them to be able to be a priority and have long term counseling available. I'd love to hear what others are doing! Thanks in advance for the information!
