Is this an educational prevention program or a campus response following assault program and do you really mean violence at large or is there a specific type of issue this department will be working on?  If it is gender based, race based, orientation based, etc. violence it may be a good idea to call it such so that students will know who to contact for which issue. I don't think that many students are clear when we say violence that we are talking about the social issue of dehumanization and the behavioral fallout of that. I'm not opposed to using it or not but I do think that it is helpful in a title for students to be able to recognize the types of issues we are working on.

Hi all,

There is conversation happening on our campus about the most appropriate name for a violence prevention coordinator position.  I’m hoping folks can share names that your campuses are using and any rationale behind including or excluding the word “violence”.  Feedback I’ve received from other administrators is that they would prefer to have a more positive-sounding title.

Assistance is appreciated!!!

Paz,

Erin
