The Debunking Handbook is another good resource that summarizes the problem of backfire effects when using about myths vs. facts. It can be downloaded from:

Subject: Data on reinforcing vs. debunking myths

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone is aware of research on the use of "myths vs. facts" sections in prevention education leading to participants' recall only of the myths, as opposed to the facts being presented in an attempt to debunk the myths.

Many thanks,
Michelle
