Hi Gillian,

I worked on this with a former student, Chris Diggs (now a professional on this listserv!), at my previous institution. She had interned at Rutgers and we learned from some of their ideas:
  • Visiting department or college meetings to gain faculty support for calling in peer educators rather than canceling class
  • Creating tie-ins to subject matter, i.e. discussing sexual violence statistics in a math course or media coverage of sexual violence in a journalism course
  • Working with various peer educator groups across campus to create a broad array of offerings (health center, multicultural center, LGBTQIA center, disability services, fraternity and sorority life, etc)
  • Creating a web page to review offerings and/or a giveaway reminder of how to learn more (magnets were least likely to get lost)
  • Having an email alias/contact/web form to request a program
Please feel free to let me know if you have additional questions!

Best,
Michelle

Subject: Question about "don't cancel that class"

Hi Everyone,

I am wondering if you have implemented a “don’t cancel that class” program at your institution.  If so, how did you go about doing that?  I welcome any advice or suggestions you can share.

Thanks,
