Wade and all,
The best info on the topic (in my opinion) comes from Dr. Rebecca Campbell of Michigan State University. She often presents trainings to law enforcement and advocates on “The Neurobiology of Sexual Assault.”
Here are a few brief videos via NIJ featuring Dr. Campbell:

I've been in the field over 30 years and have never heard a better explanation re: why victims do what they do (or don't do)in the aftermath of a sexual assault.
If any of you ever have a chance to hear her talk, don't miss it.
I hope this helps.

PS: Thank you to everyone who sent me information on responding to victims. I’ve been able to make a very handy, omnibus brochure that should make it easier for any community member to help a friend/significant
other/student in distress. You all are amazing.

I’m going to be doing a large training session with our Dean’s Sexual Conduct Review Board, and I was looking for a few succinct educational pieces on psychogenic amnesia. I’m trying to explain some of the reasons why memories are often
incomplete or skewed for victims of sexual assault. I want to talk about why victims often have good sensory memories – smells, colors, etc, but narrative memories often take some time to form coherent stories. I hope this makes sense.
