| Description: The Violence Prevention Health Educator at VCU is a full-time, experienced professional who develops and implements sexual violence education and prevention programs in compliance with Title IX and Campus SaVE Act federal laws. Principal responsibilities include: Serve as faculty advisor to Peer Educators in Sexual Assault and Dating Violence Education by Students (SAVES) and Men Against Violence (MAV). Hire, train, manage, supervise and evaluate paid and volunteer student staff, interns and peer educators. Assist SAVES and MAV members in creating and delivering innovative primary prevention programs on campus in the topics of sexual assault, dating violence and stalking and healthy relationships/healthy sexuality. Outreach, Education, and Promotion of Healthy Campus Environment. Plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based primary prevention programs including bystander intervention in the areas of sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and healthy relationships and sexuality for the VCU student body with an emphasis on reaching residence hall students, first- year students, sorority and fraternity members and athletes. Ensure programs are sensitive to issues of race, gender presentation, culture, religion, individual capabilities, and sexual orientation. Incorporate social justice concepts and principles into health promotion strategies. Coordinate programming and awareness events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Healthy Relationship Week and HIV testing events. Provide resources and programming to faculty who teach courses at the University that directly relate to Title IX, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and healthy sexuality. Act as a faculty resource for leading discussions in the classroom. Target male students on campus for primary prevention programming on sexual assault issues. Collaborate with Wellness Resource Center team on programs/services currently offered and developing new programs and services. Assist in developing and monitoring university response protocols relating to Title IX, Clery Act and Campus SaVE Act in regard to sexual assault and relationship violence. Act as a confidential University resource for survivors of sexual assault, dating violence and stalking providing survivors with advocacy services and resources on and off campus (serve as back up to Sexual Assault Services Coordinator). In collaboration with Sexual Assault Services Coordinator, provide training to Residence Hall Staff, University Counseling Services, University Student Health Services, and Campus Police as requested. Coordinate training for SAVES Peer Education program. Salary Range is $42,000 - $48,000 per year. | |
| Qualifications: Master's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Sociology, C Gender and/or Women's Studies, College Student Personnel, or related field. Demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods including presentations, trainings, small group facilitation and individual sessions. Ability to critically review health-related professional literature relevant to college students and assess its applicability and utility for effectiveness on our campus. Demonstrated skills in gathering and synthesizing information to develop health promotion initiatives and educational materials for a diverse group of students. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage time and prioritize tasks. Must be willing to conduct periodic evening/weekend programs and events. Proficient in a variety of computer software applications (word processing, spreadsheet and PowerPoint). Strong written/oral/interpersonal communication skills. Experience working or volunteering in the area of sexual assault, relationship violence or stalking prevention or services. Experience as an advocate for victims of sexual assault, relationship violence and stalking. Demonstrate a commitment social justice and the ability to work in a multicultural, LGBT-friendly environment. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. Preferred: Graduate Certificate in Gender Violence Intervention or equivalent. Quantitative and qualitative research skills (e.g. research design, conducting focus groups, data analysis, etc). Budget skills. Supervisory skills. Experience designing, delivering and/or evaluating primary prevention programs, including bystander intervention. Experience collaborating with sexual assault and/or domestic violence community organizations. Experience working in a college/university setting. Experience coordinating volunteers. Experience designing, teaching or administering online education. Marketing experience using social media. | |
