We use those terms too but a student recently expressed discomfort at the term "complainant" and suggested "petitioner" instead.

Subject: Terms for Student Conduct and Title IX process

Hello All,

 

I am wondering what terms your universities use during the Title IX and Student Conduct process to describe the person bringing forward the complaint and the person responding to a complaint.  Currently our university uses the terms “complainantâ€� and “respondent.â€�  We have considered using “reporting partyâ€� and “responding party.â€�  Please let me know if you have any guidance or recommendations for us.
