Hi all,

I have similar concerns and have also worked closely both in higher education settings and in the community on the intersections of LGBTQ issues and intimate partner and sexual violence.  I  am also concerned about the binaries presented in this survey as well as the lack of inclusion of transgender/gender queer/gender-non-conforming experience within a survey labeled as LGBTQ inclusive.  My contact information is below, and I would be happy to provide support and technical assistance to create a more inclusive survey. Or, perhaps, it would be more accurate to label it as a survey related to sexual orientation?

As someone who is in SV and a member of LGBTQ communities (having also worked with/in these communities all of my professional life), I am worried that this survey does not capture trans* experiences.  I am concerned because it is called an "LGBTQ" survey, so by excluding trans* folks, we are really just replicating in this field the experiences of exclusion trans* folks have in nearly every other avenue of research. 

I am hoping there is an opportunity to modify this because it is potentially a very exciting and much needed addition to the field.  I'd also be happy to talk more about this offline.

Hi everyone, I am consulting on a survey research project with two colleagues in Criminal Justice (including Dr. Corina Schulze), exploring the perceptions of sexual assault and the occurrence of sexual assault disclosure and help-seeking behaviors within LGBTQ communities. If you have any listservs or groups on your campus or elsewhere where you can distribute the participation request (See Dr. Schulze’s message below), I would greatly appreciate your help to explore this understudied and neglected area of experiences. 

 

Dear Potential Participant,

 

We seek individuals to participate in a study on the perception and occurrence of sexual violence within LGBTQ communities.  Researchers of sexual violence, who tend to focus on female victims in heterosexual encounters, have largely neglected studying the occurrence within LGBTQ communities. We respectfully ask for your help and valuable insight by filling out our anonymous online survey.

 

Specifically, we are requesting the assistance of members and allies of LGBTQ communities who are at least 19 years of age. Participation in this study will be anonymous, and take a total of approximately 30 minutes. You will be asked to complete an online survey of approximately 100 questions. You may withdraw your interest in participating at any time.  If you know of anyone who fits this criterion and is interested in this study, please feel free to forward them this email.
