Casey, if your campus Coordinator has attendee our title ix coordinator certification course, he or she will have a copy of our model appeals policy. It covers all of your questions except training. For training, appeals officers need the same training as the panels, plus information on gate keeping for the grounds for appeal, appropriate use of remand and rehearing, how to review records, deference and equity of inclusion of the parties.

We are looking for information about different appeals processes in university settings involving sexual assault cases in which both the victim and accused are students within the system.

1.       What is the process for appeal? Can both the victim and accused file an appeal? On what grounds must the appeal be filed?

2.       Who hears the appeal? Students, faculty, staff, other, etc?

3.       Is the decision of the appeals board final? Is it subject to review? Is the decision appealable?

4.       What training is provided for the appeals board specifically on sexual assault cases?

Thanks for any information that can be sent our way.
