We assembled a team of 3 professionals in the field to do an external review of our unit in Feb 2011.  Our review has resulted in some pretty extensive changes, including: a new mission statement, reorganization of our essential functions, a name change for our office, a strategic plan laid out for the first 5 years post-review, new approaches to how we do our work, proposal for a new staff member - search will soon commence, and more.  To my knowledge, our unit had never had an external (or internal) review since it's inception in 1979.

Our VP of Student Life put all the units in the Student Life Division into a queue to be reviewed until all are complete.   Some units found the process to be very validating, as they became empowered to add functions needed or let go of functions that were outdated or not working, and in some cases units were empowered to hire new staff.

I’m seeking information on how frequently other campuses conduct external reviews of their gender-based violence prevention and response programs.  Can you also share information about how you choose reviewers?

Many thanks.
