Hi Lauren,
You might find it helpful to review the materials from a webinar we held on
March 8th entitled "Using New Student Orientation to Prevent Violence Against
Women on College Campuses," which focused on using orientation strategically
as a kick-off to a coordinated series of events. After a brief overview of
the research supporting the need for ongoing, coordinated efforts, two campus
speakers described their programs in a fair amount of detail.
You can find a description of the webinar and all of the materials here:
http://higheredcenter.ed.gov/services/training/webinars/using-new-student-orientation-to-prevent-violence-against-women.
Besides the full recording, other materials include a PDF of the slides,
text-only closed captioning transcript, a resource list, handouts from each
of the speakers, and a summary of participants' responses to two interactive
chats we did during the webinar.
If you listen to the recording, you'll get to hear what it sounds like when
your phone line disconnects while you're running a webinar. That was a first!
:-) Luckily our speakers were still connected, so they carried on while we
dialed back in.
I hope you find the information helpful.
Best,
Linda

Hi all,
At Emory, we are figuring out the best way to integrate information about
sexual violence into orientation, particularly primary prevention education
and information about resources.
1) Is sexual violence a part of orientation/first year education at your
university? What are your learning outcomes?
2) What kind of programming format/content/time/etc. do you use?
3) Is there evidence that your orientation program/s are effective and, if
so, for what?
If you would be willing to have my Primary Prevention of Sexual Violence
Public Health intern contact you, please let me know as we would greatly
appreciate your help.
My best,
LB
