Good evening everyone- Please excuse the cross postings. Buffalo State College and the University at Buffalo are jointly hosting a judicial roundtable Moving Beyond the Mandates: Adjudicating Sexual Violence Cases on Campus at Buffalo State College. First, thank you to all of you who completed our planning survey a few months ago. We have relied on your input to plan the roundtable. While we are still working on some of the details we wanted to give you a few months advanced notice so you can plan --- The roundtable will be on Thursday February 9, 2012. The main focus will be on formulating intentional and effective questions for interviews and hearings. The roundtable will also include sessions on state and national legal requirements, victim/survivor reactions, and consent. We will also include information on resources in your area and there will be opportunities to share what is happening on campuses. The planning committee realized that we all need to do this kind of training every year and bringing a trainer in from out of town gets expensive. In order to develop some local capacity to continue this type of training we will also be holding a Train-the-Trainer workshop on Friday February 10, 2012. This workshop will focus on developing skills to lead trainings and mock hearings that help our Judicial/Conduct Board members formulate questions that elicit the information needed to determine if your Code was violated. Judicial/Conduct Office staff members, Judicial/Conduct Board members, advocates, and anyone else who is involved in adjudicating sexual assaults and other forms of sexual misconduct on campus are encouraged to attend. Please forward this e-mail to any colleagues who might be interested. We hope to have registration materials ready by late November or early December. Registration materials and additional information will be available at the website at the bottom of this e-mail. If you have any questions or want more information now please call or e-mail me.
