For those who are interested in his web info: http://www.theindychannel.com/news/2748128/detail.html http://www.tcudailyskiff.com/news/speaker-gives-tips-for-safer-spring-break-1.2481486 I have yet to see any assessment information that backs up the sentiment that his presentation is “effective,” and I’m also not yet sure of how hiring him for his services interacts with the Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act and the obligation to disclose. Further, I’m less sure about what the implications are of campuses to hire him for mandatory programming, wherein students might suffer consequences for not attending his (triggering) presentation. We found out he had been hired on campus by Greek students the day of their new member education sessions, so students came directly from his presentation to the peer education presentation on sexual assault. In general, I’ve found that folks have been far more receptive to an analysis of the evidence behind effective prevention more than they have to my concerns about his background and the ethics of hiring him. Carmen Hotvedt From: Viento, Wanda L [mailto:] A group on our campus is bringing him in April and I’d like any feedback from you all as well. We’re very concerned about him and have declined co-sponsoring him through the Women’s Center. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wanda L.E. Viento, M.S.W., Ph.D. Director, Women's Center Minnesota State University, Mankato 218 Centennial Student Union Mankato, MN 56001 507-389-6146 Everybody knows there is no fineness or accuracy of suppression; if you hold down one thing, you hold down the adjoining. ~~ Saul Bellow From: Linda Abbott [mailto:] Dear SAPC members, Our Athletics department recently invited a speaker to our campus named Adam Ritz. Ritz is a convicted rapist who is now speaking at colleges about alcohol awareness. I am curious to know if any of you have heard him and I’d like to speak to you if you have. As a survivor, I was very uncomfortable with his talk and I had a strong emotional reaction. I am very open to hearing opinions of others who have heard him or even those who have some thoughts about perpetrators as guest lecturers in general. Thanks so much.
