A webinar is an on-line seminar and requires access to the internet to connect.

Speakers:

Ben Atherton-Zeman, is a spokesperson for the National Organization for Men Against Sexism (www.nomas.org) and is a public speaker on issues of violence prevention. For the past seventeen years, Ben has worked as a prevention educator for rape crisis centers, domestic violence programs, and state coalitions.

Joseph Samalin is the Campus Strength Coordinator for Men Can Stop Rape in NYC. Joe Samalin has been working on issues of gender-based violence for over 15 years. Recently, he was a trainer with the Anti-Stalking Program at Safe Horizon where he developed curricula and conducted trainings on stalking.

Hosted by: Barbara Hart, J.D., Director of Strategic Justice Initiatives, Muskie School of Public Service.

Topic: Involving men in the work to end violence against women. Faculty will explore strategies to engage men in cultural and social change discourse/action to confront/ eliminate violence against women and the privilege and power of men to subordinate women through sexual, physical, psychological, economic and cultural abuse. Accountability of men to the leadership of women in the movement to end VAW will be examined. Faculty will share their respective experience in formulating their philosophy and history in the movement.

Approach: This series offers a vehicle practitioners and scholars to discuss the recommendations and "best practice" guides for intervening with batterers and supporting battered women across the life span.

Registration: This webinar series is open to OVW grantees and the general public. If you are an OVW Arrest grantee, please use your OVW-issued grant number. If you are NOT an Arrest grantee, you MUST use following code to register: 2007-WEAX-1801. This number is only valid for the Muskie School Series. Please do not use it for other Arrest Grant trainings.
