Hello, Juliette.
We have a section in our Code entitled, "Non-Contact Sexual Offenses," that
we would use in such an instance, along with "Violations of Law." This last
section does not require us to wait for a court finding before proceeding, if
the hearing officer/body determines that it is more likely than not that the
behavior committed by the student would constitute a violation of one or more
laws.
I do not know that I would recommend a specific Code violation concerning
child pornography, although we also have a section of the Code that prohibits
entering obscene or offensive material into computers or sending obscene or
offensive material through the Internet or any other electronic system.
In cases involving child pornography transmitted over the University computer
system, we would probably cite all three of the above as alleged violations,
and would move rather quickly, as we would view this behavior as a very
serious Code violation, and a potential violation of state and/or federal
laws.
Best wishes,
Nona

Hey all -
We unfortunately just had one of our students arrested for various counts of
downloading child pornography. While he could be sanctioned in our office of
student conduct under pther codes, we do not have one specifically for child
pornography and I was wondering if anyone out there did and what your
thoughts are about having one.
Thank you!
Juliette
