Inspired by John Foubert's comment about struggling to find the right titles
for
programs, I want to reach out to the whole sapc listserv to ask for help with
creating/naming an important title.
As all of you know, I have initiated an annual literary anthology composed of
the writings of the survivors of sexual abuse. I posted a request on this site
(and elsewhere) about a month ago, asking for submissions.
I am happy to report that I have had truly fine and beautifully written
submissions from not only all parts of the United States, but also from other
countries. The response has been deeply rewarding and moving--and daily, more
contributions arrive in my email and mailbox.
I am now trying to come up with a name for this anthology--a name that will
hold
up over time. I intend, at the least, to have this publication come out once a
year. If the demand and the submissions warrant it, we may move the
publication
to a quarterly.
It is about the title of this publication that I wish to seek your help. I
would
welcome having any of you send me ideas for the title.
The title not only needs to be poetic and literary, as well as representative
of
the vast range of personal responses to abuse, responses that are written in a
broad variety of literary styles, etc., but also needs to "speak" to those who
think they are not affected by sexual abuse. It is my hope that the
publication
open this topic for discussion and understanding in college classes, in
families, in bookstores, in churches, in communities and elsewhere.
The title needs, in other words, to not simply represent those writers inside
the pages of the anthology, but also needs to draw the attention of and feel
meaningful to those who are not survivors, but who choose to learn about abuse
through reading this publication.
Perhaps the title needs to involve concepts (concepts only...not these actual
words) of:
A Multitude of Voices
A Coalition of Strength
This Belongs to All of Us
Rewriting History
Grief and Healing
...but none of those above concepts are TITLES. And I don't want to be
prescriptive in any way, in this request for your thoughts and your
suggestions
for a great title for such a literary anthology.
If you have titles to suggest, please send them to me at my work email:
().
Thank you!
Marjorie
