Great points, thanks Mike. By "mandatory" I meant that it is an official
policy within the university administration and that it is somehow
enforced (so students have a hold placed if they don't attend, something
like that). By "primary prevention" I mean that primary prevention
principles are covered, like the underlying social causes of sexual
violence, gender roles, bystander intervention, healthy relationships,
within the class/program. Basically the next step beyond statistics
about sexual assault and risk reduction techniques. In terms of dosage,
I'd like to hear about one-time programs as well as longer classes or
programs (so yours definitely counts!) I'm looking to highlight a school
that has been successful at this as part of SAAM 2010, and am
particularly interested in how they went about "pitching" it to their
administration (basically, the policy advocacy side of things). I hope
that helps clarify!

Lauren:
For everyone to help you better, please answer the following questions:
1) What do you consider "Mandatory Sexual Violence Primary Education"?
2) How much EDUCATION are you referring to? A one-time presentation
to all incoming students, 3 classroom periods of instruction, or an
entire course dedicated solely to this issue?
These answers may help more people be of assistance.
For instance, lots of campuses around the country bring us in to
present to their First Year Students and the program is done
completely through their FYE Office, Orientation Planning, Residence
Life, and/or the Dean of Students -- without the aid of DOJ grants.
Often the programs are mandated attendance. Some schools have their
students swipe their ID cards to insure attendance.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks to those of you that responded to my previous request. I'll try
to keep them brief!
I am wondering if there are any schools out there who have managed to
get mandatory sexual violence primary prevention education for students
(first-years or otherwise) who did so independently of DOJ grant
requirements (in other words, who advocated for this policy but did not
have the grant requirements to back them up to administration). If
you're out there, please contact me! Thank you!
