Yes, these are 2 separate activities... but for the people thinking of the
experiential exercise in which participants "walk" through the steps a
survivor might take after victimization, there is a sexual assault version
called walking the walk but out by the Huston Area Women's center. I think
it it 100 or 125 dollars.
as for the walk a mile in her shoes- it has not been done on our campus, but
we have been approached by a fraternity interested in doing it. I think the
2 positive factors in this are that it is eye catching to see a group of men
walking a mile in high heels, so could generate press on the issue AND that
this is an activity that groups are coming to us with, particularly men, as
something they can do with little assistance. It is a good way to get them
involved in the movement... a good starting point.

crisis centers here in NC regularly hold "Walk A Mile in Her Shoes" events,
drawing attention to and raising awareness about sexual violence and what
survivors of sexual violence go through. They also use this event as a way
to recruit men, particularly college-aged men, to get involved in the primary
prevention of sexual violence work they are doing.

The originators of Walk A Mile have wanted to do a sexual assault version,
but they haven't had the funding (I checked with the company last year).
However, there are groups that do a Walk A Mile event for sexual assault, but

I think we're talking about two different things...
In Her Shoes is the activity that was created by the WA Coalition for DV. You
can purchase it on their website,

It is an activity where people have cards and make decisions about the
"character" on the card in a simulation type activity. It really highlights
the systemic response challenges with DV, as well as some dynamics associated
with DV.
Walk a Mile is an event that has been done to raise awareness about sexual
assault by asking men to wear high heels. It is somewhat controversial and
should be carefully done. From my perspective, we should consider the gender
identity implications of Walk a Mile, as well as whether it sends the message
that somehow men understand the danger of SA by wearing high heels for a
walk. It's a start...but if not carefully done, men get a lot of credit for
doing very minimal work.
