Good morning,
My name is Adriane Bang and I am co-facilitating a new sex-positive,
anti-violence peer theater troupe at Boise State University. Students
in the troupe complete one semester or more of education about
intersections of oppression, gender violence, resources, campus conduct
policies, theater techniques, prevention, and self awareness. After
this intensive learning, students create informative workshops to share
with the campus.
The first semester this course was offered the students who indicated
interest were primarily known allies to the Women’s Center. As interest
develops among students with whom we are unfamiliar, we are also
beginning to see the need to complete an application and interview to
assess fitness for the class and troupe. The application for the course
inquires about experience in gender studies, commitments on campus,
leadership roles, campus/criminal record, and interest in the class.
I am curious if there are other universities or community groups
represented on this listserv who currently operate a troupe in a similar
structure (students complete a course together, and then they become
part of the troupe)? If so, what criteria do you look for in your
interviews and applications to know someone is a good fit for the class?
Also, how do you determine who is not a good fit, beyond documented
history of perpetrating sex crimes or crimes of relationship violence?
Thank you!
