Colleagues,

Apologies for the cross-posting!

I'm currently putting together a presentation for our Greek Advocates
(https://web.missouri.edu/~umcstudentlifeweb/rape-ed/greek.php?page_id=Greek%20Advocates)
here at Mizzou for Fraternity audiences, and I wanted to see how other folks
are approaching these presentations.

If you have a workshop/presentation script (or outline, resources, etc) for
Fraternity audiences that you are able to share (backchannel at

if you prefer) with me, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!
Joe

Emily:

You asked about follow -up with survivors about their experiences with
different systems folks.  Many years ago, we developed a hospital task
force to deal with some problems that were occurring there and with
billing, law enforcement etc.  We developed a policy and protocol for
sexual assault exams and that hospital policy includes certain markers
of satisfaction by the survivor that need to be met.

Those initial problems have all been resolved so we now meet quarterly
just to monitor and the task force includes hospital staff, law
enforcement, advocates and reps from the county attorney's office and
although the focus is more on victims entering the medical system for
exams, our follow up helps answer many of the questions you pose below.
The sexual assault advocate calls the victim who went for the exam (the
new protocol includes calling the on-call sexual assault advocate - they
are considered part of the hospital response team) some time later and
asks questions like how they felt they were treated by hospital staff,
law enforcement etc, if they followed up with medical care as advised in
our care plan booklet, and we also track what happens to their cases -
ie. Was it charged, convictions etc.  It helps us look at how evidence
is being collected and if we need to do anything differently to increase
those charging and conviction rates.  It has been a great process,
improved services, and given us good information on what we needed to
improve.  We now have very high rates of satisfaction levels, much
higher rates of reports to law enforcement than we use to see (again of
the cases that go to the hospital  Unfortunately, we are not seeing
higher charging and conviction rates. The biggest challenge is not being
able to contact victims who didn't continue working with an advocate
because of  Changed contact information, moving etc.

If you would like a copy of what is asked I can probably get that from
our local Sexual Assault Center but it isn't anything earth shattering -
just basic assessment questions.

Hi everyone,

We're in the process of revamping our process for assessing campus
response to sexual assault incidents, and I'm looking for information
about how other campuses measure the quality of their response. In
particular:

Do you keep statistics on different aspects of sexual assault response,
such as emergency room visits, judicial meetings, counseling referrals,
etc?

Do you follow-up with the survivor to ask how s/he felt about how
administrators, public safety, or police responded?

How do you use your assessment data to improve your response to sexual
assault?

I'll send a collection of the responses I get to anyone who would like
one.

Thanks for your help!
Emily

Hello all,

Does anybody have any ideas for information, journal articles, books,
manuals, etc. on the dynamics of sexual assault within relationships
where domestic violence is occurring?  I have been asked to include
information on the co-occurrence of domestic and sexual violence for a
presentation and while I have experience working with survivors, I need
more than anecdotal information to pass along.  I am specifically
interested in elements of coercion and how SA is used as a tactic of
control in a relationship where they may not be any physical
force/violence.

Thanks in advance!
