 Thematically -- I agree about "protectionism" though the substance of what 
is taught matters more than the title -- 
 
 I teach theses two themes and I promote them as good campus campaigns/bumper 
stickers:
 
 1. "KNOW OR IT'S NO" -- as an alternative to the silly "no means no" (let's 
face it -- words are not the point -- some people are mute by biology or 
circumstance -- and sometimes no DOES mean yes) -- and in any case, we don't 
ask people whose money or property has been taken to prove that they said 
"no" -- we only burden rape victims with the duty to DO something when the 
correct theme to teach should be aimed at the harm-doer who should always 
presume NO entitlement - which means, whether no is stated is not the point 
-- it's the harm-doer's burden. Teaching "no means no" shifts the burden.
 
 SEX + BOOZE = RAPE -- This is always a tough idea to sell but the point is 
the same -- a person cannot consent without capacity to make a decision. 
Truth be told, sex with a buzz is both common and usually is NOT a crime -- 
but the idea has to be taught that it COULD be -- and that the assumption of 
risk rests with the harmdoer who chooses to have sex with an incapacitated 
person.

Based on everyone's feedback, we are evaluating changing the name of the
"Pledge to Protect" (www.pledge2protect.org) to the "Pledge for Action."
What do you think?  Conceptually, this endorses the need for signees to take
action upon signing the pledge (such as getting involved).

I really, really don't want to not be supportive of something that is
clearly meant to be, and probably is often, a positive initiative, but I
kind of don't really like the name "Pledge to Protect".  It feels very
patriarchal: less about taking care of each other, understanding how and
when it is good to help and more about maintaining existing social
structures.  Just a thought.

We know more and more campuses are utilizing the "Pledge to Protect" at
www.pledge2protect.org (completely free of cost and easy to implement).

throughout campus and your local communiites.  Plus, each person signs the
full pledge and then they also sign a heart on the 2nd page.  Then, you post

I am in intern at SUNY Fredonia's C.E.A.S.E. (Campus Education, Awareness,
Support and Effect) program and I am looking to create new programs for
Sexual Assault Awareness Month.   Some of Fredonia's other student groups
already do programs such as Take Back the Night, but I was looking for some
new, fresh programs that Fredonia has never seen before, such as the Denim
Drive and Teal Ribbons, but does anyone else have any other suggesstions?
I would greatly appreciate it, thanks!
