MaleSurvivor: the National Organization against Male Sexual Victimization is now planning its next conference. The 2007 conference, entitled Relief, Recovery, and Restoration: Helping Men Heal from Sexual Abuse, will be held on October 25-28, 2007 at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. This was the venue of our successful 2001 conference.

The 2007 conference promises to be an exciting one. We hope you will attend, so please mark the date. We also invite you to submit a proposal for a presentation or workshop. The Call for Presentation Submissions is attached to this email. (Folks, since I can't send the attachment, contact Tony for the pdf. -Claire

The conference is intended for male survivors and their loved ones; clinical and social service professionals; lawyers, law enforcement professionals, and legal advocates; and researchers, educators, and students. Therefore, as you can see from the Call for Presentations, the possibilities for presentations are wide, including experiential workshops, clinical presentations on specific areas, survivor presentations about personal experiences, research discussions, prevention workshops, and so on. Presentations can be directed toward everyone attending the conference, or may be limited to specific groups, such as male survivors, clinicians, and so on.

MaleSurvivor is a unique organization of male survivors, professionals who work with them, professionals who are themselves male survivors, family, friends and others with deep interest in the topic. We invite you to visit MaleSurvivor's web site (http://www.malesurvivor.org/) to learn more about the organization, its mission, and its accomplishments.

If you have any questions about the conference or a submission, please do not hesitate to contact the Program Committee through Tony Rodriguez, the Program Chair, at

Many of you have heard of the woman who was arrested and jailed after =
reporting she'd been raped - my friend who is a Tampa rape survivor =
wrote this to her paper, and I wanted to share it with you all with her =
permission.

"The events of this past weekend regarding the rape crime in Tampa does =
not surprise me, I am a rape survivor. The "place" where the victim was =
raped was right outside of the apartment building where I used to live, =
and was raped in 2004. What are the chances that incident would happen =
at the exact location? How many innocent women have to get raped in that =
half a block radius in order for corrective change to occur? As a =
survivor I have an interesting perspective and my heart aches for the =
trauma this woman has endured.=20

The victim had extreme courage to go to the police for help. Many =
victims feel such a strong sense of shame, guilt and disgust they are =
too afraid to report the rape. Most victims DO NOT report the crime. =
After I was raped the interrogation, rape test and following procedures =
were so traumatizing I felt as though I was being raped again. The =
community latched onto the story because of controversy; in doing so =
they re-victimized the woman, publicly humiliated her and took the =
spotlight off the REAL crime. The whole story isn't about police =
processes or the victims past. The story is about surviving the most =
devastating and degrading crime. The story is about the victims' journey =
to heal, her strength to overcome all the physical and emotional =
injuries. "

Until the violence stops, Ben. =20

products." =20
