Dear Colleagues

We strongly recommend a book on incest called Because I Love You: The Silent Shadow of Child Sexual Abuse, by Joyce Allan. There are only a limited number of copies left from the first printing, and I don't know if there will be a second.

Joyce Allan is a psychotherapist who has 35 years of experience working with child and adult survivors of sexual abuse. This is her own story. It is a memoir that is as gripping in its everyday detail as a novel, and as compelling in its narrative as a detective story. In her search to tell her story completely, she interviewed every surviving relative of her father's that she could find. The result is entirely unique, as it describes in excruciating detail how often the best intentions can cause the greatest harm.

Because I Love You is also compassionate and informative. What emerges is an indictment of the silence that surrounds incest, but it is also a complex enactment of a love so powerful it can both indict and forgive--

Don't miss it. We don't think it will be available much longer.

There seem to be several ways to order the book, which costs $19. See www.SacredSource.com; or call 434-823-1515; 800-290-6203; or 434-823-1520.

Wishing all of you a wonderful new year--

Claire Kaplan and Sharon Davie
