I am from Nashville and have been part of Take Back the Night for 5
years now and every year we invite individuals to share their music,
poetry and spoken word on the issue of violence against women. It truly
does add to the evening. We also have art therapists and people are
invited to create art to reflect their experiences and feelings. We try
to create as many avenues for people to share their voices.

This is so not my area of expertise that I held off joining the
discussion but now I think that some of you might want to use this idea.
My all-time favorite TBTN event was years ago in Nashville. Fortunately
as the out-of-town speaker I was exempt from this but -- being Nashville
-- every other presenter had to sing their message. I don't think that
it should be mandatory but if some people want to be heard at a TNTN and
are not comfortable with telling their story in prose perhaps it could
be opened up to allow song and poetry? Maybe you all do that already but
Nashville was the first and only time I've ever seen it done.
