Presents a One-Man Play: Voices of Men
This 50-minute, multi-media play deals with several important issues:
* Sexual assault and consent
* Dating violence & domestic violence
* Sexual harassment & objectification
This play uses humor and celebrity male voice impressions to bring these
topics to audiences in a way that minimizes male defensiveness. Each male
character in the play is forced to deal with one of the issues listed above -
in doing so, they come to the realization that they are, in fact, both part
of the problem and part of the solution. The process each male character
goes through has led many boys and men to become involved in both
self-reflection and in violence prevention efforts.

Beth E. Richie, Associate Professor, Departments of Criminal Justice/Gender
and Women's Studies, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Anti-violence activists and advocates are increasingly challenged to work
across differences to build a strong and enduring movement to end violence
against women. Whether it is called collaboration, coalition-building or
cross-community organization, the barriers to working collectively towards
the goal of ending violence against women can be overcome by developing
strategies considering the role that power, structural inequality and
privilege play in working across differences. This presentation will
identify some of the challenges and present ideas about effective strategies
for more respectful and therefore more effective social justice work.
