Dear Counselors:
Gift From Within is an educational non-profit organization for trauma
survivors and their families. Many of our members are victims of domestic
violence, child abuse and sexual assault. _Gift From Within_
(http://www.giftfromwithin.org/) , is a friendly and supportive website. We
have a poetry and art
gallery for trauma survivors, peer support pal network, personal coping and
inspirational stories, a Q&A on PTSD, videos, DVD's, book reviews, essays,
articles, list of retreats for survivors, list of international support
groups,
and other educational materials and resources.
Mental health providers, educators, trainers, and first responders use our
programs for training, teaching and counseling. I thought you would like
to
know about our educational programs including our new program on Domestic
Violence called _Survival From Domestic Violence: Stories of Hope and _

This film presents stories of women who transformed their lives after living
through domestic violence. The steps they took to create safety, build a
support system and find independence are described. Through their first hand
accounts they give other victims hope that healing and recovery is possible.
Part of the proceeds go to the Women's MH Task Force in Sandy, Utah. It was
produced by Dr. Angie Panos and distributed exclusively by Gift From Within.

Our upcoming program called Resiliency After Violent Death In A Family:
Lessons for Caregivers will be ready in February. It will feature Dr. Ted
Rynearson, Medical Director of the Separation and Loss Services program at
Virginia
Mason Medical Center, Seattle WA. His website is the Violent Death

_Recovering From Traumatic Events: The Healing Process_

This educational video is being used by the Army and Air Force in their
World-Wide Sexual Assault Recovery & Treatment Program. It presents
recovered
survivors and therapists discussing their experiences with the healing
process
after traumatic events. The video is useful to both therapists and survivors
in guiding their recovery efforts in a positive direction. Family members
and
community will also learn how they can assist in the recovery of their
friends, loved ones and neighbors. 2 versions: Professional $65.00 in VHS
or DVD,
and Survivor $30.00 The Professional version is being used by the Air Force
as part of their Sexual Assault Treatment and Recovery Program.
_When Helping Hurts: Sustaining Trauma Workers _

workers, relief workers and
those exposed to trauma due to their professions or work as volunteers.
Thiss
video outlines the symptoms of Secondary Traumatization and Compassion
Fatigue.
What can organizations and supervisors do to prevent or reduce the effects
of
Compassion Fatigue in trauma workers. 52 Minute $75.00 in VHS. A 15 Minute
Preview for $25.00 is available in VHS or DVD. The 15 minute program is
being
used by the Army in their sexual assault prevention and response program.
_Living With PTSD: Lessons For Friends, Partners and Supporters_

This videotape is valuable for those who care about the PTSD sufferer in
their life. It explains what PTSD is, why it is important to learn about
this
medical disorder, what you can do to help, ways to treat it, how to deal
with
the caregiver burden and how PTSD affects the family and other
relationships.
It features Dr. Frank Ochberg and Dr. Angie Panos two experts on
posttraumatic stress disorder. Frank Ochberg is a psychiatrist and the former
Associate
Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, and a member of the
team that wrote the medical definition for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Dr.
Angie Panos holds a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology. She is a licensed marriage
and family therapist, and a licensed clinical social worker. 18 Min. $30.00
