Gretchen:
Typically, if a student is found responsible for violating the sexual
assault policy, they are suspended from the University for a certain
period of time. Each case varies in terms of other "sanctions" in
terms of having to show that they went through counseling before they
could return after the suspension, probation time etc. The suspension
time varies but has never been shorter than at least one semester and
usually is longer. Unfortunately, our reports to the university are way
down in the past several years and we haven't had a finding of
"responsibility" for some time of the few cases that have reported. I
find that it really varies depending on the "players" at the university
in different influential positions.
Our university belongs to MNSCU which is the Mn. State Colleges and
University system and they have made it part of policy that if a student
is suspended from our university they cannot enroll in another MNSCU
institution which includes all the state higher education institutions
in MN except the U of M. Hope this is helpful.

Hi all,
Everyone was very helpful with my last question and I thought of another
one I hope you can help me with.
I was wondering what sanctions/punishment your schools have for
acquaintance rape if the victim takes action through the school. I just
started working here about 1 1/2 months ago and just found out that
there
isn't much of a precedent set here for this kind of thing. I guess it's
because students don't realize they can go through school judicial
services.
Anyway, once again, any information would be helpful.
Thanks,
Gretchen

Are any ever expelled? Is this failure to expel a possible factor in fewer
students coming forward.
